China’s awareness of air pollution is rising

Fu Qingyan, the chief engineer of Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center, said, “The public of the Environmental Monitoring Center and we all feel that PM10 index is not enough to reflect the current air quality situation. That’s why we need to start monitoring finer PM2.5 particles. ”
Most of China’s pollution comes from coal-burning factories, which are the main source of energy demand in the country.
Like many other big cities in China, Shanghai is surrounded by a series of factories supplying steel, chemical and electronic industries.
Zhou Jun, Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, said, “In the past 30 years, we have made greater progress than other countries in more than 100 years. If 100 years of development lead to much environmental deterioration, the same thing has happened in the past 30 years. ”
Although many respondents believe that pollution is accompanied by more wealth and development, this awareness has taken to the streets.
A Shanghai resident said, “I don’t think it’s useful to wear a mask. Because you have to breathe anyway, you still live in this environment. I just try to minimize the amount of time I spend outdoors. ”

By the end of 2010, more than 30 million units had been available for purchase by different foreign and local brands.
So far, two-thirds of China’s cities have failed to meet stricter air quality standards, and the government hopes to gradually combat smoggy skies within four years.
