Does the air purifier remove formaldehyde?

The misty day made the air purifier fire. However, the purifier market is mixed, and various slogans such as “efficient removal of PM2.5” and “removal of formaldehyde 99%” make consumers both excited and hesitant. Are these prices tens of thousands of purifiers really useful? To this end, the National Indoor Interior-Environment and Environmental Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center made the first assessment of the performance of China’s air purifiers.
The experimental results show that seven air purifiers claiming to have formaldehyde removal function are basically ineffective. The best effect of a purifier, the clean air volume (CADR) value of 29m3 / h, according to this data, in a 15 square meter room, boot for 1 hour, in theory, the formaldehyde reduction rate in the air is also less than 50 %, in the case of formaldehyde release indoors, the actual use effect will be even worse. It can be said that most of the air purifiers on the market claim to remove formaldehyde is only a selling point.
In this regard, the national air purifier standard drafter, China National Center for Disease Control and Prevention researcher Chen Liexian and the director of the National Indoor Interior-Environment and Environmental Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center Song Guangsheng reminded everyone that the following issues should be noted when purchasing and using air purifiers:
Be wary of the “removal rate” trap. Some merchants take the opportunity to use the “removal rate” to mislead consumers. Those air purifiers with a “removal rate” of 99.9% formaldehyde purchased at a large price may be “comfort products” or even “garbage” products. These products are used indoors where formaldehyde is exceeded, no matter how long it lasts, there is no significant effect. The “removal rate” is difficult to reflect the true purification ability of the product due to factors such as the volume of the test chamber, running time and natural attenuation.
According to the national standard GB/T18801 “Air Purifier”, the performance index of the air purifier should be expressed as “clean air volume” (CADR), expressed in m3 / h. When consumers purchase, they can directly check the CADR value of PM2.5, benzene, formaldehyde or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air purifier, so that their performance can be seen at a glance. Need to be reminded that if the use area is greater than 10 square meters, the CADR value of removing any kind of pollutants should be greater than 60m3 / h, otherwise there will be no significant effect.
Shop as needed. In general, air purifiers can remove one or more of the chemical, biological and radioactive pollutants in indoor air, and consumers should choose according to their own needs. Households with new renovations and new furniture purchases, homes close to highways and outdoor chemical contaminants should choose an air purifier that removes chemical contaminants. For families with children and chronic patients, it is best to choose products that have the function of purifying biological pollution. Contact us for more products and discounted prices
