When it comes to air pollution, people always think of outdoor pollution such as haze and sandstorms. According to a joint Elab survey, nearly 88% of respondents believe that indoor air quality is good. But in fact, indoors is the hardest hit by air pollution, and its damage can even reach 8 times more than outdoor. According to WHO data, the number of deaths caused by indoor air pollution is as high as 3.8 million per year.
To know that the average person spends more than 80% of the time indoors every day, how can we improve indoor air quality and have a healthy breathing environment?

Second-hand smoke is equal to chronic suicide. How to do air purification?

According to the latest report of the World Health Organization, nearly two-thirds of women of childbearing age in China passively smoke second-hand smoke at home, and more than half of them are exposed to second-hand smoke in the workplace. Experiments have shown that the concentration of PM2.5 produced in a sealed space of 35 square meters exceeds 30 times the normal value. The micro-particles originating from second-hand smoke account for about 90% of the total indoor PM2.5. As long as you can smell the smoke in the room, PM2.5 has already exceeded the standard by at least double. The global death of 24 million people each year is closely related to indoor PM2.5.

Studies have shown that secondhand smoke can lead to adult lung cancer, coronary heart disease, childhood asthma, sudden infant death syndrome. It can also cause many diseases such as adult stroke, childhood brain cancer and lymphoma. Passive smoking can increase the risk of lung cancer by about 20% and the risk of coronary heart disease by about 30%.

For everyone’s health, or hope that everyone smoke less, in order to reduce the harm of second-hand smoke from the source! However, for old smokers, quitting smoking has never been easy. Even American writer Mark Twain said: ‘It is easy to quit smoking. I have already quit a thousand times!’

What should I do if I can’t stop smoking and I don’t want my family to be harmed by second-hand smoke?

Planting green plants

Can plant some potted plants to absorb second-hand smoke to reduce the damage of nicotine to the human body! Such as: Ivy, rich coconut, cyclamen, evergreen and so on.

Use air purifier

If you have a husband or elder who loves smoking at home, you can put an air purifier at home to purify harmful smoke and dirty air inside the room. Note that when selecting an air purifier, you should choose a purifier produced by a regular manufacturer. Inferior products not only have a poor purification effect, but also release harmful gases.

In the days of smog, many people choose to nest in a room with an air purifier. Is there any use of the air purifier?

In 2015, a study published by JA Haidong of the School of Public Health of Fudan University in JACC showed that the use of air purifiers can improve heart and lung function in cities with severe pollution in China.

Recently, a randomized, cross-intervention study from Taiwan has confirmed that long-term application of air purifiers is conducive to cardiovascular health.

The study selected 200 housewives and randomly installed a real air purifier (air purifier intervention) or a fake air purifier (control intervention) in their room. After 1 year of intervention, the two groups of housewives exchanged interventions continuously. 6 home visits per year for 2 years.

The results showed that housewife was exposed to higher PM2.5 and volatile organic compounds when exposed to control, and their blood pressure and 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels were significantly higher than in air. The purifier is the expected housewife. This suggests that air pollution is associated with systemic inflammation, oxidative stress, and elevated blood pressure.

When the air purifier was intervened in PM2.5 mode for 1 year, the systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and blood high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and 8-OHdG levels of housewives decreased by 3.75%, 2.66%, 4.58% and 2.17%, respectively. When the material model was intervened for 1 year, the above indicators were reduced by 2.84%, 2.29%, 3.06% and 1.38%.

The systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and blood high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and 8-OHdG levels were increased by 3.01%, 2.14%, 5.76% and 4.35%, respectively.

The researchers pointed out that it takes a long time to improve the air quality around the world. For the general population and the weaker people, the use of air purifiers is a simple, practical and burdensome way to reduce indoor air pollution and improve cardiovascular health. Affordable measures.

They believe that ‘this measure will ultimately bring significant public health benefits, such as reducing premature death and medical costs caused by air pollution.’
